Grades For Final (And Final Grades) Posted

The grades are now posted. I threw out six questions on the final exam because at least 70% of the class missed those questions, so your percent correct is out of 49, rather than 55.

The mean after the curve was 76% (SD = 13). Here is the grade distribution.


The point totals and final grades are also posted. Again, unless there is a mathematical error in your point total, the grade you see is the grade you get. Remember, that your point totals already include attendance, extra credit, generous exam curves, etc., so I can't add points on top of all that.

Project Grades Posted (Updated below)

The grades for the project are now posted on Blackboard.

Except for the final exam and the peer evaluations, all your points are now included. To find out what you need to make on the final for each letter grade, you can use the grade calculator (Excel). Just plug in your total points and your expected peer evaluation points, and it will tell you how many points you need on the final (out of 200).

And remember, the final is from 8-10 a.m. on Monday.

Updated Sun 12/10 2:39 p.m.: If you used the grade calculator before now, there were several issues with the formula. (I guess I should have included a disclaimer.) It is working now, so please recalculate the points needed if you used the calculator earlier.

Important Things To Remember

We're almost done for the semester, so several announcements and reminders:

• All of the points are posted except for the project and the final exam. I have posted a grade calculator so that you can see how many points you'll need on the final to get an A, B or C based upon your expected grade for the project*. Download the calculator here. (Excel format)
• The project is due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.
• Peer evaluations for the project are due at the beginning of the class on exam day (8-10 a.m. next Monday 12/14 -- please note exam time). Download the peer evaluation form here.
  
• On Wednesday, we'll talk a little about writing up your research, and then do a short review for the exam
• Be sure to complete the online student evaluation of teaching form before Friday. Click here to complete.
  

* Note about your points: Please do not email me after the final grades are posted and ask me to change your grade. Your grade is based on your points. If I have made an error or left off points, by all means let me know. However, the final grading is very simple. If you have enough points, you get the grade. If you don't, you don't. (900 points is an A, 899 is a B, etc.) Your point total already includes attendance, extra credit and curves, so I don't add points on top of that. If you email to ask me for an exception, you'll just waste both of our time. No exceptions. Period. Exclamation mark.

Student Evaluations of Teaching

As you probably know, this semester UNT has switched to an online system of student evaluations. I want to encourage all of you to take advantage of this opportunity to rate both my teaching and the course.

This is important because it (a) is how the university evaluates me as an instructor, and (b) helps me improve my teaching and the setup of the course. Answer honestly, and don't worry ... your ratings and comments will remain anonymous, and the results won't be released until after grades are assigned.

SPSS Guides for Tests of Associations and Regression Posted

I have posted the SPSS guides for tests of associations (last week's lab) here, and another guide for regression (today's lab) here.

Those should be helpful as you work on you project.

Also, remember that we changed next week's schedule ... an optional lab on Monday, and on Wednesday we'll talk about presenting research and do a review for the final.

Chapter 19 Handouts Posted

The handouts for Chapter 19 (Regression Analysis) are now posted. This is an important lecture that will be a big part of the final, so plan to be in class if at all possible.
